Mocambo, Park Street

It is not a secret that Mocambo happens to be one of my favourite restaurants in the city; but with time, it has also begun to be “the”-restaurant for me in Calcutta.Even though dining out has gradually decreased over time, but the last few days of December, with that unmistakable chill, always keep us calling to the Park Street restaurants where we find it hard to resist the “sip and bite” over dinner.Last weekend, we started the year end sip and bite with Mocambo.
Whenever we visit the place, it is usually Kebabs for starters, followed by the trademark  (Indianised)Continental main course and end up with Ice-creams/Chocolate dips.
But for a change, we ordered Mocambo’s Dry Chilli Chicken. When the dish came on the table, we were mildly surprised by the deep fried wafer thin potatoes accompanying the chicken.Initially we thought that the potatoes were a garnishing agent but when we were having the Chicken pieces along with the crunchy Chicken pieces, it tasted divine. The boneless chicken pieces were “melt in the mouth” soft. And the slightly fried green chilli pieces provided the perfect spiciness in the dish. The beer combined exceedingly well with the chilli chicken.
This dish calls to be recreated in my kitchen in the future definitely.

Main course was Chicken A la kiev for me and Angels on a Horse Back(basically Bacon wrapped chicken along with some butterred rice) for the wife. And we ended up the dinner with TruityFruity – vanilla-strawberry ice creams and fruits and biscuits.

Loved the winter chill as we headed back to the car and drove back home. There were choirs singing Christmas carols and Park street was being decked up with lights for the celebration weeks and it all felt so great indeed!

Takeaway: Try the Chili Chicken from Mocambo, it is one of those so perfect starters you will ever find in the city.
