Our Bengali Dinner

There are a few favourites of every true Bengali which no one can ever deny – Rice, Dal sheddo, alu bhaja, omelette and ghee with a couple of kancha lanka(green chili). These are age old classic recipes that require less to no time to prepare but taste just too good for the taste buds. So, one day, I decide, I am going to cook it all after returning from office.
True I was tired, but somehow I felt the connect to the kitchen. It was sometime in March this year, and the summer had not yet surfaced, like it is now in May. Late evenings and nights were cool whereas the days started to get hot.
So, as I said, I returned from the office and fumbled with a few things to get things going. The wife says, what were we going to have? I still doubted. So, I thought a bit, rolled up my sleeves, and set up the Rice straightaway. That left the other oven empty and so, I thought to myself Omelettes, Alu peyaj bhaja can be prepared right away – the wi
fe helps to do with all the vegetable cutting and preparing pit , whereas I bring the ghee from the fridge and place it between the two ovens and the ghee starts to melt fast.
The omelettes, came out just fine and then we fried the alu peyaj bhaja – sprinkled a bit of lemon juice and sugar and some turmeric powder and some green chilies, tasted a bit of it with the tip of my tongue and it was heaven. Then put on the dal in the pressure cooker and boiled it until soft.
Finally we had a dinner which was worth every moment of the effort put in.Rice, ghee, kancha lanka, dal sheddo, alu peyaj bhaja and omelette.
Thats bliss!
