Hidden Forest Retreat – Nice wood work

We (my wife and me) are not the one who usually like to take a guided tour of any city. Generally speaking we like to spend time walking around the places,
slip into the bylanes , taste the local food,,discover their likings, clothing, food habits so on and so forth.
From the earlier blog, you should have known by now that we had made it to Gangtok from Zuluk the previous night and were put up at the Hotel Hidden Forest Retreat.

Idle away seating on the garden

Today was going to rest day. So we woke up lazily at around 8.30 ish and headed for breakfast.Post which we made our way to MG Marg. The weather was cloudy,
as is typical in the hills and we idled away the time sitting on the benches and looking the people walking past. Most hill people are a stylish lot wearing
fake North Face, Nikes and Woodland apparels.

Brocolli in the Garden

Upon asking someone where can we look for authentic Sikkimese cuisine, we were pointed to the Taste of Tibet, which is quite an old establishment.
Trying the momos, thukpas and schezwan noodles and the occassional beer sitting by the window seat and watching people streaming past the MG Marg is quite an
experience. The food was authentic and service was prompt.Nice place. Recommended for lunch.

Taste of Tibet At MG Marg. Definitely recommended

Lunch over, it was time to hop around the market place. Visited the tea shops(Sikkim is famous for its Temi tea) and later made our way to the Flower show.
The weather of Sikkim is conducive for the growth of orchids and there you will find ample of them. The walk from the Flower show was a long one indeed and
here we met a bengali guy who was working in Sikkim.

Flower show

He helped us in shortcutting the hill roads to reach MG Marg.
The evening at MG Marg is again a pleasant experience. They have music playing in the speakers, lights are up and the whole place is buzzing with tourists
and locals.Almost every one in Gangtok seems to be present in MG Marg in the evening.

Cacao, The Coffee Shop

The evening walk had drained us with a lot of energy and we needed to refill. We found quite a few coffee shops and bakeries dotting the area and went to
Cacao. We had the pork sausages, poached egg, coffee and sandwiches.Again this is one place recommended for breakfast/evening snacks.
It was getting late and the crowds started to get thin.
We hired a cab and reached the hotel.

The Lounging Area at Hidden Forest

Had very little dinner and was off to sleep. It was going to be North Sikkim the next day.
So, next blog – North Sikkim. Coming Up tomorrow.
